The Australian Water Recycling Centre for Excellence was established by the Australian Government in 2009 to work alongside the water sector and advance water recycling through research. The Centre invested in a portfolio of industry-relevant research projects across the nation. On the completion of that research and development program, the Intellectual Property outcomes were transferred to the project partners best placed to further their development and the Centre closed in September 2016.
The objective of this project was to provide an Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence Ltd Final Report that meets all legislative and content requirements. The Final Report is a key accountability document and the final way in which the organisation reports it activities to their stakeholders (including the Australian Government) and the wider water recycling community. The Final Report had to be a stand-alone document, produced to the satisfaction of the Commonwealth and that can be publicly distributed. It needed to outline the outcomes and the impact and adoption of the Centre’s research and supporting programs, and provide information on the mechanisms and processes employed by the Centre under the funding agreement with the Commonwealth.
After working closely with the Centre on best approach, it was decided that a theme would be created to provide a narrative that can be clearly traced throughout the document, and indeed the life of the Centre. This theme would help to reinforce the key message about the performance, the role, directions and achievements of the organisation’s research program and activities. The theme would also frame the content, structure, language and communication design elements used in the Report.
The carefully evolved look and feel of the final report resulted in a clean, engaging and uncluttered design. Our design made good use of white space to enhance readability, highlight key messages and enhance rapid location of relevant information.
A strict timeline was planned and adhered to throughout the process resulting in the delivery of the report on the day, planned three months in advance. The final report outlined clearly the enduring legacy that the Centre’s five-year research program delivered to the water sector.
