Kindilan provides school outdoor education programs like leadership development, Girl Guide camps, outdoor education for community groups , school holiday programs, adventure holiday programs and venue hire for meetings, conferences and training.
It has been owned by Guides Queensland since 1949, a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity. Kindilan (Kin-dill-an) is an indigenous word meaning ‘joyful place’ and is located on 220 acres of natural bushland at Redland Bay, Brisbane. The country is primarily eucalypt, melaleuca and casuarina with the site known to include wallabies, koalas, echidnas, goannas, snakes, curlews, kookaburras and many other native birds.
Kindilan is all about active, positive engagement - If the visitors have fun, they will remember it. Visitors to Kindilan can choose their level of challenge and ideally will do things they never thought possible and leave with a true sense of accomplishment.
The previous brand was thought to have delivered an environmental message, but didn't communicate 'outdoor education' – ideally the new Kindilan needed to deliver both.
Kindilan required a unique and memorable positioning to help the brand stand out in a crowd of similar centres. The brand personality needed to be welcoming, warm and encouraging, whilst staying true to it's environmental and sustainability qualities. The finished design needed to be very adaptable and work across a wide range of communication mediums.
The finished symbol encapsulates both outdoor and environmental education. The illustrated mark uses the aerial map of the centre as the blueprint which was then hand drawn into an element that promotes the beautiful natural setting that is Kindilan.
